During the Industrial Revolution Finsbury became known for clock and watch making and many craft workshops in the area still carry on the traditional trades such as jewellery making. The area is quieter than Angel (whose nightlife is still only a stone's throw away) and has a mix of housing stock including fine Georgian and Victorian terraces and loft conversions. Northampton Square and Kings Square Gardens are both very beautiful. The area is convenient if you wish to work in the City and enjoy the social life in Angel. Finsbury Leisure Centre offers good local authority sports facilities and a swimming pool. City University - described as the University for business and the professions - is also closeby. It offers a range of business and technical courses for undergraduates and postgraduates. Local resident Barry Carroll writes: “I like the area because I have corner shops nearby, Starbucks, Costa Coffee, bars and some great restaurants, eg. 19:20 pool hall/bar/restaurant on Suffolk St and the fab new Souvlaki restaurant on St John St. “Angel 5 mins walk away - 24hr Sainsburys, tube, all the shops we need, WB cinema, bars and fab restaurants. The corner of Goswell and Clerkenwell Rd is the best place in London to flag down a cab - millions go by this major junction.” Notable developments in Finsbury include: 21 Lever St; East Central Building and The Courtyard both on Seward St; The Nautilus Building, Myddleton Passage; West City One, Naoriji Street; Pietra Lara, Peartree St. A recent purchaser of ours, Miss E Stow of the Spa Green Estate writes: 'Spa Green Estate is great, There are a few kids, who hang around in the central courtyard but they are too young to be intimidating and ignore anyone who is out of their age range. A caretaker cleans the stairwells daily and the Estate office is manned 9am to 11am weekdays. The nearby facilities are too numerous to mention, they include a gym with a 25m pool, bars and restaurants, Upper Street, Exmouth Market, Saddlers Wells Theatre. 19 bus to town and the 341 to Waterloo on your doorstep. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
Tubes: Angel, Farringdon, Barbican.
