The furthest west of the area covered by Spencer Thomas Estate Agents, Bloomsbury is filled with hospitals, colleges and institutions. Most notably the British Museum and University of London are both situated here. Hence it is a popular place for doctors, lecturers and teachers to live. Russell Square has many fine Georgian apartments. While there is not much nightlife directly in Bloomsbury it is close to the West End, theatres and Covent Garden. In Bloomsbury you are within walking distance of Tottenham Court Road and Fleet St. The early 20th century saw the rise of the Bloomsbury Group. This loose collective of writers, artists, critics and commentators came together in the belief that mutual artistic appreciation and promotion of each others work was the way to advance their individual and collective cultural agenda. The group included the economist James Maynard Keynes, historian Lytton Strachey and writer Virginia Woolf. Later, Bloomsbury attracted another group of intellectuals, led by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Their main interest however was in drinking binges.
